What this trial studies
This research aims to test different strategies to increase prostate cancer screening among Black or African American men aged 40 and older. The study evaluates three approaches: education with passive navigation, education with active navigation, and education combined with community outreach. The primary goal is to assess the completion of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) tests, with follow-up evaluations on participants' experiences and knowledge regarding prostate cancer. The study takes place in local barbershops in Cleveland, Ohio, to engage the community effectively.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are Black or African American men aged 40 and older who have not had a PSA test in the past year.
Not a fit: Patients who have previously been diagnosed with prostate cancer or have undergone a prostatectomy will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could significantly increase prostate cancer screening rates among Black men, leading to earlier detection and better outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in using community-based approaches to improve cancer screening rates, making this approach promising.
