What this trial studies
This observational study collects data on children and adolescents who have experienced severe weight gain before the age of five. Participants are recruited from the Genetic Disorders of Obesity Program at Texas Children, where demographic information, body measurements, medical and family history, and genetic data are gathered. The aim is to enhance understanding of obesity development in these young patients and identify those who may benefit from further testing and interventions.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are children aged 2 years and older with a BMI greater than the 97th percentile or those under 2 years with a weight-to-length ratio above the 95th percentile.
Not a fit: Patients who do not meet the specified BMI or weight-to-length criteria may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved understanding and management of severe obesity in children, potentially guiding personalized treatment strategies.
How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies on obesity, this specific approach focusing on genetic disorders of obesity in young children is relatively novel.
