What this trial studies

This observational study evaluates the effectiveness of cytisine, a plant-derived alkaloid, in aiding smoking cessation among adult smokers and users of alternative nicotine products. The study focuses on a 25-day treatment regimen and assesses its impact on cardiovascular function, including arterial stiffness and endothelial health. Additionally, it aims to track relapse rates, treatment side effects, and any new cardiovascular events during and after the treatment period. Participants will be recruited from a smoking cessation unit at a cardiology department.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adult smokers or users of alternative nicotine products who are willing to participate in the study.

Not a fit: Patients with a history of coronary artery disease, active malignancy, severe liver or renal failure, or autoimmune diseases may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this treatment could significantly improve smoking cessation rates and cardiovascular health in smokers.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown promising results with similar pharmacological approaches for smoking cessation, suggesting potential for success in this study.
