Creating a video library of endoscopy procedures to improve AI quality reporting and education
Creation of a Video/Image Library of Annotated Full-length Endoscopy Procedures for the Development of Artificial Intelligence-empowered Endoscopy Quality Reporting and Educational Modules
This study is creating a video library of endoscopy procedures to help improve the quality of care for patients with rectal cancer or inflammatory bowel disease and to train future doctors.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to establish a comprehensive video/image library of endoscopy procedures for patients with rectal cancer or inflammatory bowel disease. By collecting these recordings, the study seeks to develop and validate AI-driven solutions that can automatically detect and report endoscopy quality metrics. Additionally, the library will serve as a resource for creating educational tools to enhance the skills of residents and fellows in endoscopy. The study will involve recruiting patients undergoing upper or lower gastrointestinal endoscopies at the Centre Hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal, with all procedures performed by trained gastroenterologists.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and older who are scheduled for screening, surveillance, diagnostic, or therapeutic endoscopies.
Not a fit: Patients with coagulopathy, emergency endoscopy needs, or poor general health may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this initiative could significantly enhance the quality of endoscopic procedures and training for healthcare professionals.
How similar studies have performed: While the use of AI in endoscopy is an emerging field, similar studies have shown promise in improving procedural quality and training outcomes.
