What this trial studies

This clinical trial aims to compare the effectiveness of two non-surgical treatments for peri-implantitis: mechanical debridement and air-polishing using the Perioflow® device. Participants will receive one of the two treatments, and researchers will evaluate the outcomes by measuring pocket depth and bleeding on probing. The goal is to determine which method provides better results in managing peri-implantitis. This study is being conducted at Tannhelsetjenestens kompetansesenter for Nord-Norge.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals referred for treatment of peri-implantitis who have at least one implant affected by the condition.

Not a fit: Patients with cemented prosthetic reconstructions, those smoking more than 10 cigarettes per day, or individuals with poorly controlled diabetes may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to more effective non-surgical treatment options for patients with peri-implantitis.

How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies on non-surgical treatments for peri-implantitis, the specific comparison of air-polishing versus mechanical debridement is less common, making this approach somewhat novel.
