What this trial studies
This clinical trial aims to evaluate four different methods for reducing heart rate prior to coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) imaging. The study will compare the effectiveness of oral versus intravenous administration of beta-blockers, as well as the impact of a music intervention on patient experience. A total of 240 participants will be randomized into four groups, with heart rate monitored using a cardiac output meter and sensory experiences assessed through visual analog scales. The study also seeks to determine the optimal timing for imaging after contrast administration to minimize motion artifacts and enhance image quality.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 years or older who have a referral for a cardiac CT examination.
Not a fit: Patients with atrial fibrillation, pacemakers, or contraindications to beta-blockers may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved cardiac imaging techniques that reduce radiation exposure and enhance diagnostic accuracy for patients.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with beta-blocker administration for heart rate control in imaging, but this specific comparison of methods is novel.
