What this trial studies

The study surveys current and past Fellowship Council–sponsored HPB and Advanced GI fellows and senior surgeons involved in their training to compare curriculum experiences and outcomes. It gathers data on operative exposure, perceived readiness for independent practice, and post-fellowship job placement. Analyses will compare different fellowship tracts to identify strengths and gaps between residency training and real-world practice. The observational project uses questionnaires and institutional coordination through Methodist Dallas Medical Center.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal participants are current and former Fellowship Council–sponsored HPB and Advanced GI fellows (including AHPBA-accredited programs) and senior surgeons involved in FC fellowship training.

Not a fit: Individuals who did not complete an FC-sponsored HPB or Advanced GI fellowship or who decline to participate will not directly benefit from the study's findings.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the findings could guide improvements to fellowship curricula so graduates are better prepared for independent HPB and complex GI practice and more easily find appropriate jobs.

How similar studies have performed: Prior surveys have documented that many residency graduates seek extra fellowship training, but direct comparative analyses of Fellowship Council curricula and their impact on job readiness are limited.
