Video tutorial plus oral explanation versus oral explanation alone for colonoscopy preparation
Prospective Multicenter Randomized Trial Comparing Oral Explanation Alone and With Video Tutorial for Bowel Preparation Quality and Adenoma Detection
NA · Centre Hospitalier Saint Joseph Saint Luc de Lyon · NCT07355777

What this trial studies
Adults scheduled for a first colonoscopy who can access a video will be assigned to receive either a video tutorial plus standard oral explanation or the standard oral explanation alone before their procedure. The main outcome is the quality of colonic preparation, judged against the 2019 Société française d'endoscopie digestive (SFED) recommendations. The study will track rates of poor preparation, incomplete colonoscopies, and any procedure delays or complications related to inadequate cleansing. Results will show whether a standardized video can reduce heterogeneity in patient understanding and improve exam quality.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Adults aged 18 or older undergoing their first colonoscopy for symptoms, family history, or suspected colorectal cancer who can access the internet and view a video are ideal candidates.
Not a fit: Patients without internet access, those needing an emergency colonoscopy, or those with psychiatric or cognitive conditions preventing understanding are unlikely to benefit from the video intervention.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the approach could increase the proportion of adequate bowel preps, leading to more complete colonoscopies and fewer repeat procedures.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies of educational aids, including videos, have shown mixed but often positive effects on bowel preparation quality.
