Cerebrospinal fluid leak after brain tumor surgery
Cerebrospinal Fluid Leak Incidence, Management and Risk Factor After Supratentorial Craniotomy for Intracranial Tumors: a Prospective Observational Study.
This project will look at adults having planned supratentorial craniotomy for intracranial tumors to see how often cerebrospinal fluid leaks occur and what complications they cause.

What this trial studies
This observational project will collect clinical and surgical data from adult patients undergoing elective supratentorial craniotomy for intracranial tumors at the Medical University of Warsaw. Patients having revision or emergency procedures are excluded to focus on primary planned tumor operations. Postoperative courses will be followed to document occurrences of cerebrospinal fluid leakage, wound healing problems, infection, reoperations, and any delays to adjuvant therapies such as radiotherapy or chemotherapy. The dataset will be analyzed to describe incidence, timing, and potential risk factors associated with leakage in this specific surgical population.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Adults aged 18 or older scheduled for an elective supratentorial craniotomy for an intracranial tumor are the intended participants.
Not a fit: Patients undergoing revision (recurrent tumor) surgeries or emergency neurosurgical procedures are excluded and would not be helped by this project.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the findings could help surgeons reduce wound complications and avoid delays in recommended postoperative therapies for brain tumor patients.
How similar studies have performed: While cerebrospinal fluid leakage has been studied more in infratentorial and skull-base procedures, detailed data specifically for supratentorial tumor craniotomies are limited.
