Breathing after robot-assisted hysterectomy

Respiration Efter Hysterektomi Med Robotassisterad Laparoskopi- REHYR

Observational Göteborg University · NCT06806280

What this trial studies

This observational study will include 80 consecutive women undergoing robot-assisted laparoscopic hysterectomy for endometrial cancer or endometrial intraepithelial neoplasia. Lung function (dynamic spirometry) and oxygen saturation will be measured before the operation and again after surgery, and patients will rate their perceived breathing on a visual analogue scale. The study will describe the magnitude and time course of postoperative changes in lung volumes and oxygenation and look for predictors of low lung volume, hypoxia, and postoperative pneumonia. Results will be compared to prior findings from open and laparoscopic procedures to determine whether robotic surgery has distinct respiratory effects.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Women aged 18 or older scheduled for robot-assisted laparoscopic hysterectomy for endometrial cancer or endometrial intraepithelial neoplasia who can understand Swedish or English are ideal candidates.

Not a fit: People with cognitive impairment or who cannot understand Swedish or English are excluded and will not be included, and the results may not apply to patients having open or non-robotic hysterectomy or with unrelated advanced lung disease.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the findings could help identify patients at higher risk for breathing problems after robotic hysterectomy and guide preventive care to reduce complications.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have documented respiratory changes after open and conventional laparoscopic hysterectomy, but respiratory effects specifically after robot-assisted hysterectomy have not been studied.
