What this trial studies

This observational study aims to evaluate the prevalence of diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular edema among patients with diabetes in Egypt using ultrawide field fundus photographs. The study leverages novel imaging technology that captures a large portion of the retina in a single image, enhancing the detection of retinal abnormalities associated with diabetes. By analyzing the data collected from patients with both previously diagnosed and newly diagnosed diabetes mellitus, the study seeks to provide insights into the extent of diabetic eye disease in the region.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients diagnosed with diabetes mellitus.

Not a fit: Patients who are unable or unwilling to undergo imaging will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved screening and early detection of diabetic retinopathy, potentially reducing vision loss among diabetic patients.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies utilizing ultrawide field imaging have shown promising results in improving the detection of diabetic retinopathy, indicating that this approach is both validated and beneficial.
