What this trial studies
This observational study aims to evaluate how well anesthesiology residents explain the content of preoperative anesthesia visits and how well patients understand this information. Data will be collected through questionnaires administered to both residents and patients, focusing on the main topics covered during the visit, the duration of the visit, and the patients' comprehension of the anesthesia informed consent. The study seeks to identify areas for improvement in communication to enhance patient understanding and satisfaction.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are ASA I-II patients who have not previously undergone surgery under general anesthesia and are scheduled for laparoscopic cholecystectomy or laparoscopic appendectomy.
Not a fit: Patients with visual or auditory impairments or those unable to understand the communication may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve the quality of preoperative communication, leading to better patient understanding and satisfaction regarding anesthesia procedures.
How similar studies have performed: While similar studies have explored patient understanding in medical settings, this specific approach focusing on pre-anesthesia visits is relatively novel.
