Assessing motor and voice development in infants

Spontaneous Motor-voice Assessment in Infants Using Video and Audio Recordings.

Observational Ohio State University · NCT06807203

This study is trying to see if watching videos of infants can help spot early signs of physical disabilities, especially for those at risk of Cerebral Palsy, by looking at their movement and voice development.

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to identify motor-voice profiles in infants that may indicate physical disabilities, particularly focusing on those at risk for Cerebral Palsy. Parents will upload videos of their infants at specific developmental milestones, and optional in-person assessments will be available at later stages. The study seeks to explore the relationship between motor function, voice production, and neurodevelopmental outcomes, leveraging advancements in behavioral observation methodologies. By examining these connections, the research hopes to uncover early biobehavioral markers for infants with developmental concerns.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include infants born between 24 and 41 weeks of gestation who are medically stable and have been admitted to the NICU.

Not a fit: Infants diagnosed with genetic syndromes or musculoskeletal deformities, or those who have failed a hearing screen, may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to early identification and intervention strategies for infants at risk of neurodevelopmental disorders.

How similar studies have performed: While the approach of linking motor and voice assessments in infants is innovative, similar studies have shown promise in identifying early markers of developmental disorders.
