What this trial studies
This study tests an educator-level implementation strategy, coaching, to enhance paraeducators' use of the Remaking Recess intervention, which aims to improve social skills among autistic students and their non-autistic peers. The study will take place across three sites, focusing on elementary-aged students in K-5th grade who are autistic or have neurodevelopmental disorders. The goal is to maximize the fidelity and sustainability of the intervention by involving school-based teams alongside paraeducators. By fostering better social interactions during recess, the study seeks to create a more inclusive environment for all students.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include elementary-aged students (ages 5-12) diagnosed with autism or neurodevelopmental disorders, as well as paraeducators and teachers working with these students.
Not a fit: Students or educators who have previously participated in Remaking Recess studies will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly enhance social skills and peer interactions for autistic students during recess.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using educator training to improve social engagement for autistic students, indicating that this approach has potential for success.
