What this trial studies

The GAMEFILM Registry is a multi-center observational study that collects data on the prevalence and severity of coronary artery disease (CAD) among retired NFL players. This study involves approximately 300 participants from around 20 sites across the United States. Participants will undergo coronary computed tomography angiography to evaluate their cardiac health and identify potential risks associated with their history as professional athletes.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are retired NFL players who have previously been on a practice squad or active roster.

Not a fit: Patients who are not retired NFL players or those whose coronary computed tomography angiography cannot be successfully processed will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide valuable insights into the cardiac health of former NFL players, leading to better prevention and treatment strategies for heart disease.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have explored cardiac health in athletes, but this specific focus on retired NFL players and the use of advanced imaging techniques is relatively novel.
