Analyzing serum indicators in elderly patients after gastrointestinal surgery

Correlation Analysis of Postoperative Delirium and Postoperative Neurocognitive Disorder in Elderly Patients With Gastrointestinal Neoplasms

Observational Xuanwu Hospital, Beijing · NCT06466096

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to investigate the differences in serum indicators among elderly patients with gastrointestinal neoplasms who experience postoperative delirium (POD) and those who do not develop long-term postoperative neurocognitive disorders (pNCD). Patients aged 65 and older undergoing surgery at Xuanwu Hospital will have their serum indicators measured before and after surgery, alongside cognitive assessments using the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA). The study will classify patients into POD and non-POD groups and further assess neurocognitive function in the POD group to identify the presence of pNCD. The findings may provide insights into the relationship between serum indicators and cognitive outcomes in this population.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are elderly patients aged 65 and above who are undergoing surgical procedures for gastrointestinal neoplasms.

Not a fit: Patients with a history of psychiatric or neurological disorders, or those unable to complete cognitive assessments, may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could help identify serum indicators that predict cognitive outcomes in elderly patients after gastrointestinal surgery.

How similar studies have performed: While similar studies have explored cognitive outcomes in surgical patients, this specific correlation analysis of serum indicators in elderly patients is relatively novel.
