Analyzing serum indexes in elderly spinal surgery patients with postoperative delirium

Correlation Analysis of Postoperative Delirium and Postoperative Neurocognitive Disorder in Elderly Spinal Surgery Patients

Xuanwu Hospital, Beijing · NCT06466083

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to investigate the differences in serum indexes between elderly patients who experience postoperative delirium (POD) after spinal surgery and those who do not develop long-term postoperative neurocognitive disorders (pNCD). Participants aged 65 and older will undergo cognitive assessments before surgery and delirium evaluations within a week post-surgery. The study will compare serum index levels before and after surgery to explore correlations between POD and pNCD. The research is conducted at Xuanwu Hospital under routine anesthetic management.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are elderly patients aged 65 and older who are scheduled for spinal surgery.

Not a fit: Patients with a history of significant psychiatric or neurological disorders, or those unable to complete cognitive assessments, may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of postoperative complications in elderly patients, potentially leading to improved management strategies.

How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies on postoperative delirium and neurocognitive disorders, this specific correlation analysis in elderly spinal surgery patients is relatively novel.
