What this trial studies

This observational project uses the EPIMAD registry to compare occupational insertion and educational level of adults diagnosed with pediatric-onset IBD to those of the general population. Eligible participants are adults aged 25 or older who were diagnosed before age 17 between 1988 and 2011 and reside in the EPIMAD catchment area. The study analyzes differences by disease type, sex, age at diagnosis (< or ≥10 years), surgery history, disease location, treatments, and quality of life, and collects patient-reported perceptions of the disease's impact. It also intends to estimate QALYs and assess the responsiveness of the IBD-DI functional handicap score in a subset of approximately 200 patients.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults aged 25 or older who were diagnosed with Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, or related pediatric-onset colitis before age 17, are listed in the EPIMAD registry, and reside in Nord, Pas-de-Calais, Somme, or Seine-Maritime.

Not a fit: People diagnosed after age 17, those not listed in the EPIMAD registry, or individuals living outside the specified French regions are unlikely to be included or directly benefit from the study's local comparisons.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the findings could identify gaps in education and employment support and inform services to improve long-term social and occupational outcomes for people with pediatric-onset IBD.

How similar studies have performed: Prior observational studies have shown links between IBD and reduced work participation and quality of life in adults, but data specifically focused on pediatric-onset cohorts are limited, so this approach builds on existing evidence while addressing a gap.
