Website to teach people how to prevent liver cancer
Development and Testing of a Patient-facing Educational Tool About Liver Cancer Prevention
This project will test a website that teaches adults at risk about liver cancer prevention and lets them get a personal risk summary.

What this trial studies
Researchers will develop and refine a web-based, patient-facing educational tool about liver cancer prevention using iterative cognitive and usability testing. Adults (18+) who receive care at the HOPE Clinic and speak English or Spanish will complete cognitive interviews to check comprehension and usability sessions to practice entering risk factors on a phone or study computer. Study staff will revise text, messages, layout, and functionality until interviewer notes show participants understand the content and can independently input risk factors and download a personal summary. Acceptability will be measured with the Ottawa Acceptability Measures and knowledge with study-designed questions to describe user response and learning.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults (18+) who receive care at the HOPE Clinic, can read English or Spanish, are not diagnosed with liver cancer, and (for usability testing) can navigate websites on a smartphone or study computer.
Not a fit: People already diagnosed with liver cancer, those who cannot provide consent or have vision/hearing impairments that prevent participation, and individuals who do not read English or Spanish are unlikely to benefit from this tool.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the tool could help patients better understand their liver cancer risk and take preventive actions or seek appropriate care earlier.
How similar studies have performed: Similar web-based educational and usability-focused interventions for cancer prevention have generally improved user knowledge and ease of use, but this specific liver cancer prevention tool is a novel, targeted effort.
