Validation of a model to predict vitamin D deficiency in critically ill patients
Validation of Prediction Model of Vitamin D Deficiency in Critically Ill Patients
National Taiwan University Hospital · NCT05094388
This study is trying to see if a new model can help predict vitamin D deficiency in critically ill patients in the ICU to better understand its impact on their immune system.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to validate a predictive model for vitamin D deficiency in critically ill patients based on previous findings from a multi-center study in Taiwan. The study will enroll patients admitted to intensive care units (ICUs) and assess the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency and its association with inflammatory cytokine levels. By analyzing data from ICU admissions, the researchers hope to improve understanding of vitamin D's role in immune regulation among critically ill patients. The study focuses on patients who have been in the ICU for less than 28 days and excludes those with certain health conditions or high vitamin D supplementation.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are critically ill patients admitted to ICUs in Taiwan.
Not a fit: Patients under 20 years old or those with specific health conditions such as severe liver cirrhosis or parathyroid disease may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to better management of vitamin D levels in critically ill patients, potentially improving their outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have indicated a high prevalence of vitamin D deficiency in critically ill patients, suggesting that this approach may yield valuable insights.
