What this trial studies
This observational study investigates the effects of washed microbiota transplantation (WMT) on patients suffering from malnutrition. It focuses on the relationship between gut microbiota and malnutrition, highlighting how the diversity of gut bacteria differs in malnourished individuals compared to healthy ones. The study aims to assess whether dietary interventions combined with WMT can improve nutritional status, weight gain, and overall health outcomes in malnourished patients. Participants will include adults who have experienced significant weight loss or have a low body mass index (BMI).
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and older who have experienced significant weight loss or have a low BMI.
Not a fit: Patients with a life expectancy of less than three months or those who are pregnant or breastfeeding may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly improve the nutritional status and health outcomes of malnourished patients.
How similar studies have performed: While the concept of microbiota transplantation is gaining traction, this specific approach targeting malnutrition is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested in previous studies.
