What this trial studies

This observational trial aims to validate the accuracy of wearable health technology, specifically the Apple Watch Series 9, in monitoring various physiological parameters relevant to cardiovascular health. Participants aged 20 to 70 with a history of congenital heart disease, pulmonary hypertension, heart failure, or coronary artery disease will be recruited from Queen Mary Hospital and the University of Hong Kong. The study will involve collecting comprehensive demographic and clinical data, conducting a baseline clinical examination, and performing a cardiopulmonary exercise test to assess participants' maximal oxygen uptake. The goal is to explore the potential of smartwatches in aiding disease progression monitoring and predicting adverse events in cardiovascular patients.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include individuals aged 20 to 70 with a history of specific cardiovascular conditions or athletes undergoing cardiovascular assessment.

Not a fit: Patients who are pregnant, have contraindications for physical exertion, or have known allergies to smartwatch components may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance the ability to monitor cardiovascular health and improve patient outcomes through continuous, non-invasive tracking.

How similar studies have performed: While the use of wearable technology in health monitoring is gaining traction, this specific validation against medical-grade devices is relatively novel.
