Using semiconductor knee sleeves to reduce pain in knee osteoarthritis
A Randomized Prospective Study to Evaluate the Effect of Semiconductor Knee Sleeves on Pain in Osteoarthritis of the Knee.
NA · Herlev and Gentofte Hospital · NCT05255835

What this trial studies
This study evaluates the effectiveness of semiconductor woven knee sleeves made from germanium and carbon in alleviating pain and improving function in patients with knee osteoarthritis. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either the semiconductor knee sleeves or a placebo cotton knee sleeve for three months. The study aims to determine if the semiconductor technology, which enhances blood circulation through the release of negative ions, can lead to significant improvements in pain and knee function compared to the placebo. The trial will be conducted at the Hip- and Knee-arthroplasty Unit of Herlev Gentofte Hospital.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals aged 40-90 with knee osteoarthritis who are not yet indicated for surgery and have a BMI less than 35.
Not a fit: Patients with rheumatoid arthritis, previous blood clots, or a BMI greater than 35 may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this treatment could provide a non-invasive option for pain relief and improved function in patients with knee osteoarthritis.
How similar studies have performed: While the specific use of semiconductor knee sleeves is novel, similar approaches using technology to enhance circulation have shown promise in other studies.
