Using Rapid-Response EEG to Diagnose Seizures in Children
Observational Single-Center Study: Improving Timely Detection of Electrographic Seizures by Use of Rapid-Response EEG in Children With Suspected Status Epilepticus Admitted to the Pediatric ICU
Children's Hospital at Montefiore · NCT06564662
This study is testing if a new quick EEG device can help doctors diagnose seizures in children faster than the standard method.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to compare the speed of obtaining EEG results using the Ceribell® Rapid Response EEG device against the conventional continuous EEG method in pediatric patients suspected of having status epilepticus. Conducted at a single urban academic pediatric hospital, the study involves a retrospective chart review of patients who underwent either EEG modality within 24 hours of admission to the pediatric ICU. The goal is to determine how much faster the rapid response EEG can provide diagnostic information, which is critical for timely treatment. The study is approved by the Institutional Review Board and focuses on patients with neurological diagnoses and diminished consciousness.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are pediatric patients aged 0-21 years admitted to the pediatric ICU with suspected status epilepticus.
Not a fit: Patients who have rapidly improved neurologically or have traumatic brain injuries may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly reduce the time to diagnosis and treatment for children experiencing status epilepticus.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies in adult ICUs have shown success with rapid response EEG approaches, suggesting potential applicability in pediatric settings.
