What this trial studies
This clinical trial evaluates the effectiveness of an algorithm-based approach using osteopathic manual therapy for patients suffering from fibromyalgia and temporomandibular disorders. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either the active osteopathic treatment or a sham therapy. The study aims to assess improvements in pain and dysfunction associated with temporomandibular joint issues in this population. The trial will include patients who meet specific inclusion criteria and will be conducted in a clinical setting in Spain.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults over 18 diagnosed with fibromyalgia and experiencing moderate pain or dysfunction in the temporomandibular joint for over three months.
Not a fit: Patients with recent trauma or surgery to the head, face, or neck, or those with systemic diseases or malignancies in the orofacial region may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly improve the quality of life for patients suffering from both fibromyalgia and temporomandibular disorders.
How similar studies have performed: While there is limited data on this specific approach, similar studies using osteopathic techniques for chronic pain management have shown promising results.
