What this trial studies
This project aims to enhance engagement with HIV testing and prevention services among men in Sub Saharan Africa, particularly in Eastern Zimbabwe. It employs an implementation science approach to distribute HIV self-testing kits through male social networks, supported by phone-based assistance and improved risk perception. The study utilizes a cluster-randomized trial design, recruiting participants from existing village boundaries to assess the impact of peer distribution on the uptake of Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP). The intervention is designed to address barriers to HIV prevention and testing in the target population.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adult men residing in the Manicaland province of Zimbabwe.
Not a fit: Patients who are not residents of the study site or who do not engage with male peer networks may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly increase HIV prevention and testing among men, ultimately reducing new infections.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown promise in using peer networks for health interventions, suggesting this approach could be effective.
