What this trial studies
This observational study evaluates the severity of mucositis and other oral symptoms in patients undergoing allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) who receive photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy. Participants are divided into two groups: one group has their medical records reviewed, while the other group involves nurses completing surveys about the patients' experiences. The primary objective is to assess the impact of PBM on oral pain, taste changes, and dry mouth. This study aims to implement existing evidence and discover new knowledge regarding the effectiveness of PBM in managing oral complications.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and older who are undergoing allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.
Not a fit: Patients who are not undergoing HSCT or are younger than 18 years may not receive any benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved management of oral mucositis, enhancing the quality of life for patients undergoing HSCT.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promising results with photobiomodulation for managing mucositis, indicating that this approach has potential benefits.
