What this trial studies
This study evaluates the effectiveness of fractional vascular laser therapy in managing burn scars that are 6-12 months old. It aims to determine how this treatment can improve various aspects of burn scars, including height, texture, vascularity, and pliability. The study is designed as a randomized controlled trial to provide robust evidence regarding the benefits of this laser treatment compared to other modalities. Participants will receive fractional vascular laser therapy to assess its impact on their scars.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals living in Winnipeg with thermal burn scars that are 6-12 months old and have Fitzpatrick skin types I-III.
Not a fit: Patients with open wounds or those outside the specified geographic area may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this treatment could significantly improve the appearance and quality of life for patients with burn scars.
How similar studies have performed: While there is existing literature supporting laser therapy for burn scars, this study aims to fill the gap in high-quality randomized controlled trials, making it a novel approach.
