Using electrogastrography to assess gastroparesis in lung transplant patients
High Resolution Electrogastrography (HR-EGG) Assessment in Medically Refractory Gastroparesis
This study is testing a special device to see if it can help find stomach problems in lung transplant patients who have severe gastroparesis and if these problems can predict their need for a specific stomach surgery.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a high-resolution electrogastrography device in identifying gastric dysarrhythmias in patients with medically refractory gastroparesis, particularly those who have undergone lung transplantation. The study will compare the presence of these dysarrhythmias in lung transplant patients against other causes of gastroparesis and assess whether their presence can predict the need for gastric per-oral endoscopic myotomy (G-POEM). Patients will undergo gastric mapping before and after the G-POEM procedure to monitor changes in gastric dysarrhythmias. The findings could help tailor interventions for better management of gastroparesis in this population.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include adult patients over 17 years old with medically refractory gastroparesis.
Not a fit: Patients who are pregnant, have skin allergies, or are unable to remain in a relaxed position during the test may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved treatment strategies for patients suffering from gastroparesis after lung transplantation.
How similar studies have performed: While initial reports on G-POEM for treating post-lung transplant gastroparesis are promising, this specific approach using electrogastrography is relatively novel.
