What this trial studies

This study evaluates the effectiveness of targeted cryotherapy in preventing madarosis, or loss of eyebrows and eyelashes, in breast cancer patients receiving anthracycline- and taxane-based chemotherapy. Patients will undergo cryotherapy sessions before and after chemotherapy infusions, with hair retention measured at multiple timepoints using photogrammetric analysis. Additionally, the study aims to assess the impact of this intervention on patients' quality of life through validated questionnaires. The research will be conducted at two hospitals in Spain, with a total of 120 participants expected to enroll.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are women over 18 years old, newly diagnosed with breast cancer, and scheduled to receive specific chemotherapy treatments.

Not a fit: Patients with recurrent breast cancer or those who have previously undergone chemotherapy or hormone therapy may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly improve the quality of life for breast cancer patients by preserving their eyebrows and eyelashes during chemotherapy.

How similar studies have performed: While scalp cryotherapy has shown success in preventing hair loss, the specific application of cryotherapy for preventing madarosis is less established and represents a novel approach.
