What this trial studies

This clinical trial aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Auricular acupuncture in treating insomnia in patients who have experienced a stroke. Participants will receive either Auricular acupuncture or a sham treatment every five days for four weeks, with their sleep patterns monitored through checkups and sleep diaries. The study will assess whether Auricular acupuncture can reduce the time taken to fall asleep, increase total sleep hours, and improve overall sleep quality as measured by the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. Additionally, researchers will track any medical issues that arise during the treatment period.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older who have experienced a stroke at least three months prior and meet the diagnostic criteria for insomnia.

Not a fit: Patients who had insomnia prior to their stroke or have other sleep disorders or psychiatric conditions may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this treatment could significantly improve sleep quality and overall well-being for post-stroke patients suffering from insomnia.

How similar studies have performed: While the specific use of Auricular acupuncture for post-stroke insomnia is novel, acupuncture has shown promise in treating various sleep disorders in other studies.
