Using artificial intelligence to enhance endobronchial ultrasound for lung cancer evaluation
Automatic Segmentation of Mediastinal Lymph Nodes and Blood Vessels in Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) Images Using a Deep Neural Network

What this trial studies
This study evaluates the effectiveness of a deep neural network (DNN) in identifying mediastinal and hilar lymph nodes during endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) procedures. It is a multi-center prospective feasibility study that trains the DNN on annotated ultrasound images to improve the segmentation of lymph nodes and blood vessels. The study consists of two parts: the first assesses the DNN's performance on static EBUS images, while the second evaluates its real-time application during EBUS procedures.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults aged 18 and older who have undiagnosed enlarged mediastinal and hilar lymph nodes.
Not a fit: Patients who are pregnant or deemed inappropriate for the study by the investigator will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could lead to more accurate and efficient evaluations of lung cancer, improving patient outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: While the use of artificial intelligence in medical imaging is a growing field, this specific application in EBUS is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested in prior studies.
