Using AI to identify if ovarian tumors are benign or malignant
Computer-aided Radiology for Cancer Detection and Therapy Stratification - Benign or Malignant Ovarian Tumors.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to enhance the accuracy of distinguishing between benign and malignant ovarian tumors using a computer-aided detection algorithm. The research utilizes existing CT-scan images and clinical data from patients who have undergone surgery for ovarian tumors. By employing artificial intelligence techniques, specifically a support vector machine algorithm, the study seeks to improve diagnostic precision and reduce unnecessary referrals to specialized oncology centers. The study is retrospective, analyzing previously established diagnoses to refine the algorithm's effectiveness.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are women with an ovarian tumor whose malignancy status is uncertain and who have undergone surgery with histological confirmation.
Not a fit: Patients with an indefinite pathology report or insufficient staging information in their surgical reports may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could lead to more accurate diagnoses of ovarian tumors, reducing unnecessary surgeries and anxiety for patients.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies utilizing AI in radiology have shown promising results, indicating potential for success in this novel application.
