What this trial studies
This clinical trial evaluates the effectiveness of a generative artificial intelligence chatbot in assisting patients with hip and knee osteoarthritis in their decision-making processes. Participants will interact with the chatbot prior to their clinic visit with an orthopedic surgeon, focusing on reducing decisional conflict and anxiety. The study aims to determine if the chatbot's use correlates with improved health literacy and patient-reported outcomes. By analyzing these interactions, the trial seeks to enhance the overall decision-making experience for patients.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults with clinical symptoms of hip and/or knee osteoarthritis who can read and write in English.
Not a fit: Patients who are unable to read and write in English will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could empower osteoarthritis patients to make more informed decisions regarding their treatment options.
How similar studies have performed: While the use of AI in healthcare is growing, this specific approach to using a chatbot for decision-making in osteoarthritis patients is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
