What this trial studies
This study investigates the impact of a respiratory exercise diary on patients recovering from major abdominal surgery. It aims to assess how this diary can help improve respiratory parameters, reduce dyspnea and fatigue, and prevent postoperative pulmonary complications. The study will involve 60 patients who will be randomly assigned to either an intervention group using the diary or a control group. Data will be collected on various respiratory metrics and functional capacity over the postoperative period.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults undergoing elective major abdominal surgeries such as colorectal surgery, gastrectomy, liver resection, or pancreatectomy.
Not a fit: Patients with chronic respiratory diseases, dementia, or those on psychoactive drugs may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly reduce the incidence of pulmonary complications and improve recovery outcomes for patients after major abdominal surgery.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown that breathing exercises can effectively reduce postoperative complications, suggesting this approach may be beneficial.
