Understanding the relationship between aortic stenosis and cardiac amyloidosis
Aortic Stenosis and Cardiac Amyloidosis: A Pragmatic, Streamlined International
This study is trying to understand how aortic stenosis and cardiac amyloidosis affect each other in older patients and see if specific treatments work better when combined with valve replacement.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to create an international, multi-center registry to collect approximately 300 patients diagnosed with both aortic stenosis (AS) and cardiac amyloidosis (CA). The study will thoroughly characterize this dual condition and assess long-term clinical outcomes, as well as the effectiveness of amyloid-specific treatments in conjunction with valve replacement. By utilizing advanced imaging techniques for non-invasive diagnosis, the study seeks to provide insights into the prevalence and implications of AS-CA in elderly patients. The findings could help improve treatment strategies and patient management.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are elderly patients with significant aortic stenosis and a confirmed diagnosis of cardiac amyloidosis.
Not a fit: Patients without significant aortic stenosis or those with other subtypes of cardiac amyloidosis may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved treatment protocols for patients suffering from both aortic stenosis and cardiac amyloidosis.
How similar studies have performed: While studies have explored the coexistence of aortic stenosis and cardiac amyloidosis, this registry aims to provide a larger cohort for more definitive conclusions, making it a novel approach.
