What this trial studies
This observational study focuses on the prevalence and clinical severity of cutaneous lupus erythematosus (CLE) through a multi-site database established between the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Texas Southwestern. The database collects valuable information on the disease's pathophysiology, treatment responses, and quality of life impacts for patients with CLE. Utilizing the Cutaneous Lupus Activity and Severity Index (CLASI) and other assessment tools, the study aims to validate clinical courses and patient experiences over time. The ongoing resource allows clinicians to track evolving clinical changes and treatment modalities in this challenging condition.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and older who have been diagnosed with cutaneous lupus erythematosus or systemic lupus erythematosus.
Not a fit: Patients who do not meet the criteria for having CLE or are under 18 years old may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of CLE, leading to improved treatment strategies and better quality of life for patients.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies utilizing similar observational approaches have shown success in understanding lupus and its impacts, indicating that this methodology is both tested and valuable.
