Understanding risk factors for chronic kidney disease linked to metabolic diseases

Risk Factors and Multiomics Study of Chronic Kidney Disease Caused by Metabolic Diseases

Observational Peking Union Medical College Hospital · NCT05476627

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to build a cohort of patients suffering from chronic kidney disease (CKD) caused by metabolic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, hyperuricemia, and obesity. It will investigate the common pathophysiological mechanisms leading to renal injury, including the activation of the Renin-Angiotensin-Aldosterone System and oxidative stress. By identifying risk factors and potential biomarkers, the study seeks to enhance understanding of CKD progression in the context of metabolic disorders.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 to 80 diagnosed with metabolic diseases.

Not a fit: Patients with primary and secondary glomerular diseases or other significant renal comorbidities may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved prevention and management strategies for chronic kidney disease in patients with metabolic diseases.

How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies on chronic kidney disease and metabolic diseases, this specific multiomics approach is relatively novel.
