Understanding reverse trigger in patients on mechanical ventilation

Incidence of Reverse Trigger Phenotypes and Response to Ventilatory Adjustments in Patients With ARDS

Hospital Civil de Guadalajara · NCT06148467

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to determine the incidence of reverse trigger (RT) in patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) who are receiving mechanical ventilation. Participants will be monitored continuously using esophageal manometry to detect RT and assess their response to ventilatory adjustments. Data will be collected on various clinical parameters, including ventilator settings and patient outcomes, to better understand the dynamics of RT in this population. The study will involve trained investigators who will analyze ventilator waveforms and other metrics to characterize RT events.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults diagnosed with ARDS who are currently on mechanical ventilation.

Not a fit: Patients under 18 years old, those with tracheostomy status, pneumothorax, or tube thoracostomy with air leaks may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve the management of mechanically ventilated patients with ARDS by identifying and addressing reverse trigger events.

How similar studies have performed: While the specific approach of this study may be novel, similar studies have explored mechanical ventilation dynamics and their impact on patient outcomes.
