What this trial studies

This observational study aims to characterize persistent musculoskeletal pain in patients who have recovered from Covid-19. It will be conducted in two phases: first, a descriptive cross-sectional study to estimate the prevalence of Long Covid Pain (LCP), followed by a case-control study comparing patients with LCP to those without persistent pain. The study will assess various factors, including central sensitization, to better understand the underlying mechanisms of pain in this population.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include individuals aged 18-70 who have had a confirmed Covid-19 infection and are experiencing musculoskeletal pain lasting more than 12 weeks.

Not a fit: Patients with a history of chronic musculoskeletal pain prior to Covid-19 or those with specific exclusions such as major depression or fibromyalgia may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide insights into the prevalence and mechanisms of Long Covid Pain, leading to improved management strategies for affected patients.

How similar studies have performed: While there is limited literature on the specific characterization of Long Covid Pain, similar studies on post-viral syndromes have shown promise in understanding chronic pain mechanisms.
