Understanding KCNQ2 Gene-related Neonatal Seizures

A Cohort Study on the Prognosis of Neonatal KCNQ2 Gene-associated Epileptic Encephalopathy

Observational Children's Hospital of Fudan University · NCT03934268

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to investigate the causes and influencing factors of neonatal seizures associated with the KCNQ2 gene. Researchers will assess the prognosis of infants experiencing these seizures, focusing on improving identification, intervention, and management strategies. The study will involve infants under 28 days old who have experienced their first seizure, with a particular emphasis on genetic factors contributing to their condition. By gathering data on these cases, the study seeks to enhance health education and preventive measures for affected families.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are newborns under 28 days old who have experienced their first seizure.

Not a fit: Patients with seizures caused by congenital brain malformations or other systemic syndromes may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to better management and outcomes for infants with KCNQ2-related seizures.

How similar studies have performed: While there is limited international reporting on KCNQ2-related neonatal seizures, the study builds on emerging insights into genetic factors influencing neonatal convulsions.
