Understanding Ischemic Strokes in Patients on NOACs

Ischemic Strokes While on NOAC - How Compliance Matters

Chinese University of Hong Kong · NCT04607070

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to analyze the epidemiological trends, causes, clinical characteristics, and treatment options for ischemic strokes occurring in patients on novel oral anticoagulants (NOACs). Data will be collected from the stroke registry at Prince of Wales Hospital, focusing on adult patients with atrial fibrillation who experienced ischemic strokes or transient ischemic attacks over five specific years. The study will categorize patients based on their anticoagulation status and gather comprehensive demographic, clinical, and imaging data to identify preventable causes and inform future healthcare strategies.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are ethnic Chinese adults with atrial fibrillation who have suffered an ischemic stroke.

Not a fit: Patients who are non-ethnic Chinese or those who have experienced a hemorrhagic stroke will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of ischemic strokes in patients on NOACs, leading to improved prevention and treatment strategies.

How similar studies have performed: While there may be studies on strokes and anticoagulants, this specific focus on ischemic strokes in the context of NOAC compliance is relatively novel.
