What this trial studies
This observational cohort study investigates the prevalence of frailty among patients undergoing vascular surgical procedures, such as aortic aneurysm repair and carotid artery surgery. It aims to assess how frailty and pre-operative activity levels impact surgical outcomes, morbidity, mortality, and quality of life. By utilizing questionnaires, the study will quantify frailty levels and explore their correlation with surgical results, ultimately guiding future interventions to improve patient outcomes. The findings are expected to lay the groundwork for future studies focused on enhancing frailty management in this patient population.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include patients scheduled for aortic aneurysm repair, carotid artery surgery, or lower limb revascularization who can provide informed consent.
Not a fit: Patients under 18 years of age or those unable to provide informed consent may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved surgical outcomes and quality of life for patients with vascular diseases.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have indicated that frailty significantly impacts surgical outcomes, suggesting that this approach is both relevant and necessary.
