What this trial studies
This observational study aims to gather respiratory and blood samples from children under 24 years old who have been diagnosed with COVID-19. The primary focus is to determine the clinical characteristics and outcomes of COVID-19 in this population, as well as to identify risk factors associated with the disease. By analyzing these samples, researchers hope to gain insights into how the virus spreads and affects children, particularly those with underlying health conditions like cancer. Follow-up samples will be collected based on standard care procedures to monitor the disease progression and immune response.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are children under 24 years old with laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 who are patients at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Not a fit: Patients who do not have COVID-19 or are over the age of 24 will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of COVID-19 in children, leading to improved detection and treatment strategies.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have explored COVID-19 in pediatric populations, but this specific focus on children with cancer is relatively novel.
