What this trial studies
This observational study focuses on primary caregivers of patients diagnosed with idiopathic Parkinson's disease. It aims to assess various factors including the caregivers' demographics, their relationship to the patient, and the duration of caregiving. The study will evaluate caregiver burden using the Zarit Caregiver Burden Scale, alongside assessments of sleep problems, depression, and anxiety through standardized scales. A total of 43 participants will be recruited to gather comprehensive data on both patients and their caregivers.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are informal caregivers aged 40-80 who provide care to patients with Parkinson's disease at Hoehn and Yahr stages 2-5.
Not a fit: Patients with additional neurodegenerative diseases, severe COPD, advanced heart failure, active cancer, or significant mobility issues unrelated to Parkinson's disease may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide insights into the challenges faced by caregivers, leading to better support and resources for them.
How similar studies have performed: While caregiver burden in chronic illnesses has been studied, this specific focus on Parkinson's disease caregivers is less common, making it a potentially novel approach.
