What this trial studies
This observational study aims to investigate the evolution of drinking patterns and psychological predictors of alcohol use disorder (AUD) in patients who have undergone bariatric surgery. It will analyze how alcohol consumption changes post-surgery and identify psychological factors that may contribute to problematic drinking. The research is motivated by the increasing rates of AUD observed in bariatric surgery patients and seeks to inform prevention strategies. Participants will complete questionnaires to provide data on their alcohol consumption and psychological profiles.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older with a BMI of 40 or higher, or 35 or higher with obesity-related comorbidities, who are scheduled for bariatric surgery and fluent in French.
Not a fit: Patients who are minors, have difficulty understanding French, or lack access to a computer or smartphone will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved prevention strategies for alcohol use disorders in patients after bariatric surgery.
How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies indicating increased AUD rates post-bariatric surgery, this specific focus on psychological predictors and longitudinal drinking patterns is relatively novel.
