What this trial studies

This study investigates the efficacy of group-based Metacognitive Skills Training (MCT) for patients diagnosed with psychotic disorders, such as schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder. The intervention aims to enhance social cognition and metacognitive abilities, which are often deficient in these patients and linked to violent behavior. Participants will be compared to control groups using a psychological test battery to assess changes in cognitive and psychiatric symptoms over time. The study is conducted at Vanha Vaasa Hospital, where participation in MCT is integrated into standard care.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include individuals diagnosed with a psychosis spectrum disorder who are willing to participate and have sufficient Finnish language skills.

Not a fit: Patients with severe cognitive problems or those under guardianship for personal matters may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this training could significantly reduce violent behavior and improve social functioning in patients with psychotic disorders.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown that similar interventions, like Social Cognition Interaction Training, have successfully reduced violent behavior in psychotic patients.
