What this trial studies
This project aims to address the issue of intimate partner violence (IPV) that is facilitated by alcohol consumption among young adults. By delivering a just-in-time text messaging intervention during periods of high risk, the study evaluates how timely messages can influence alcohol use and reduce IPV perpetration. The intervention targets at-risk individuals, focusing on the timing, content, and conditions under which these messages are most effective. The study seeks to improve public health outcomes by providing immediate support to individuals at risk of engaging in IPV.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are young adults aged 18-30 who consume alcohol regularly and have a history of intimate partner violence perpetration.
Not a fit: Patients who do not consume alcohol or have not engaged in intimate partner violence may not benefit from this intervention.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly reduce instances of alcohol-facilitated intimate partner violence among young adults.
How similar studies have performed: While the approach of just-in-time interventions is gaining traction, this specific application targeting alcohol-facilitated IPV is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
