What this trial studies
This clinical trial aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a one-week nicotine replacement therapy sampling, delivered by lay counsellors, to help smokers in the community quit smoking. Participants will receive brief cessation advice alongside the therapy. The study focuses on individuals who have been smoking daily and meet specific eligibility criteria, including certain carbon monoxide and cotinine levels. The intervention is designed to be accessible and supportive, leveraging community resources for smoking cessation.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are Hong Kong residents aged 18 and older who smoke daily and meet specific carbon monoxide or cotinine testing criteria.
Not a fit: Patients currently participating in other smoking cessation programs or using cessation drugs may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly enhance smoking cessation rates among community smokers.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown that community-based interventions for smoking cessation can be effective, suggesting potential success for this approach.
