What this trial studies
This trial investigates the effectiveness of the Labour Care Guide (LCG) developed by the World Health Organization for monitoring labor and childbirth. It aims to compare the LCG's impact on labor interventions and maternal and neonatal outcomes against the previous WHO partograph in a Norwegian setting. The study will be conducted as a nationwide randomized controlled trial involving multiple hospitals, focusing on improving care quality and reducing unnecessary interventions during childbirth. The trial includes a feasibility study for an electronic version of the LCG and a survey to assess patient experiences.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are women in active labor who are delivering at the participating study sites.
Not a fit: Patients who are not in active labor or delivering outside the study sites will not benefit from this trial.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this trial could lead to improved maternal and neonatal health outcomes during labor and childbirth.
How similar studies have performed: While the LCG has been tested in low- and middle-income countries, this trial represents a novel approach to evaluating its effectiveness in a high-income setting.
